id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead has dashed any hopes that the driving and action game Rage could come in 2009.

"No, it won't be out this year," he told GameTrailers TV. id has yet to announce any official release date.

Rage is id's upcoming game based on its id Tech 5 game engine. The title is in development on PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and PS3.

id is also working on the tentatively-titled Doom 4, which may or may not bear the "4" in its final name, Hollenshead said. GameTrailers TV host Geoff Keighley asked about the possibilities of an open world environment in Doom, or possibly the addition of vehicles. The CEO wouldn't confirm any details of the next Doom, but said, "Doom is Doom and really is, to me, the grandaddy of all FPS games, all the shooter games. And to make it something that's not a shooter would just be a travesty and a crime against humanity."

ok, Id are second only to Nintendo for vapourware. So Rage is coming out late 2010..... that really means Q3 2011. Or more like Q1 2012 after they expanded their development team to 7 people. WTF they need to make Id Shanghai. Then u get them to crunch out the game while u sit on the beach and drive around in ur sports cars.

Doom 4?!
The grandaddy of all FPS games. Granted. But why prod the grandaddy out of his comfy seat and make him shuffle around pretending to be hip and cool? Why can't he smoke his pipe watch the grandkids run around?
