Nokia has announced that it will scrap the Ovi brand of services - which includes its Ovi Store - moving everything under the Nokia brand. The store, through which Nokia users can purchase apps and games, will remain intact during the transition which is scheduled to begin in July and extend into 2012.
"We will reinforce the powerful master brand of Nokia and unify our brand architecture while continuing to deliver compelling opportunities and experiences for partners and consumers alike," said Nokia marketing chief Jerri DeVard in a rather histrionic statement.
Although not mentioned in the statement, the rebrand may be as a result of the strategic partnership recently formed by Nokia and Microsoft.
Nokia added that it expected a "smooth and seamless" transition with no planned service disruptions.
