I don't want to burst the AWESOME enthusiasm going on here, but AMD, Intel, Nvidia, & Microsoft make most of their money selling hardware to business development houses. This ranges from governments, military groups, special effects/ media companies, & game development houses - which will make games for consoles or PC.

Really if PC gaming dies, the only people who'd be hurt would be indie dev's, but that is sad anyway.

dreamhunk's picture

it's funny how people avoid hard facts you might want to check all my links there bud! You always like to spew unfactual commets!!!

NickgamertagO1's picture

Unfactual??? So we're just making words up now?

dreamhunk's picture

you can expect governments, military groups, special effects/ media companies, & game development houses to be fronting up a much bigger bill on computers with out the pc gaming. I am sure governments, military groups, special effects/ media companies, & game development houses are going to be real happy when they are going to have pay bigger costs for the parts!!!!

also go read my earlyer links! Any one who says pc gaming well not have a huge impact on the pc gaming market is lying to them self. Oh the pircay thing on pc, that will also effect software for big business too as well!!

yea one more thing we are also in a ression I am sure governments, military groups, special effects/ media companies, & game development houses would to start paying alot more for their parts in a ression. No wonder these days both AMD is going bankurpt. Oh AMD had to use the legel system to help them make money. It's still not going to help the.

Some people think pc's are expensive now you just wait ;)

Indrema's picture

The reason companies make most of their money off these groups is due to the fact that governments/miltary/FX houses don't give a shit about how much it costs...ever.

I love PC gaming. In fact, the only console I own is a DS, but I don't see how threatening remarks will suddenly port MK vs. DC to the PC. Dreamhunk, I don't see why you won't just admit it as a frustrating endgame that you wish won't happen, but possibliy could happen. Because that's what it is.

dreamhunk's picture

lol I am sure share holders will care alot :) enough said!!! When companies ar forking down those bills or losing money I am sure they will be asking those same questions. Oh I would like to add it's in a ression too.

Indrema's picture

I, actually, happen to be a US government/military shareholder - (taxpaying citizen). There's a lot of things I get mad about financially - bailing out banks, Iraq war's too expensive, etc. Strangely, they never seem to listen.

Here's something that makes me, as a shareholder, upset...
http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/18/boeing-to-develop-microwave-based-air...

But I guess as long as PC gaming keeps the CAD software cheap; they'll keeping plodding along.

dreamhunk's picture

too bad, from what I hear a new world goverment will take over before they will ever get to use it!

dreamhunk's picture

here is another expert on the matter

with out pc gaming the pc Industry is noting, AMD,Intel,INVida might as well ask for bankupcay protection

Dream,

You're like the PC version of Kim_Naroz. Do you ever give it a rest? I'm sure you'll reply with some link to a 4 year-old "news" story about how "micro soft" (and by the way, you know Microsoft is one word right?) is losing trillions of dollars and that PC gaming will crush home consoles into the ground.

dreamhunk's picture

I have been dead on in all my debates, You want to bring it, fine show me some hard facts or back off!!why is that your full of hot air and your wasting my time!

Barla Von's picture

People are still buying boxed games? That's so 20th century.

I can't remember the last time i bought a boxed copy of a game.

NickgamertagO1's picture

Because this site seems slow updating 2 hour-old news, I thought I'd throw this up. (April's NPD numbers). Yes, I'm aware this is a PC news release, but it IS an NPD release so it's sorta related...

DS: 1.04 million
Wii: 340,000
Xbox 360: 175,000
PS2: 172,000
PS3: 127,000
PSP: 116,000

1. Wii Fit w/ Balance Board, Nintendo, 471,000 (Wii)
2. Pokemon Platinum, Nintendo, 433,000 (DS)
3. Mario Kart Wii w/ Wheel, Nintendo, 210,000 (Wii)
4. Wii Play w/ Remote, Nintendo, 170,000 (Wii)
5. The Godfather II, EA, 155,000 (Xbox 360)
6. Resident Evil 5, Capcom, 122,000 (Xbox 360)
7. New Super Mario Bros. , Nintendo, 119,000 (DS)
8. Mario Kart DS, Nintendo, 112,000 (DS)
9. Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Activision, 110,000 (Xbox 360)
10. The Godfather II, EA, 91,000 (PlayStation 3)

NickgamertagO1's picture

Last month the 360 sold 112k more units (34% more) than the PS3 but this month only 48k more units (27% more). A rather dismal month for the Wii, 360, and PS3 if you ask me. PS2 and DS had nice months.

edit: Holy shit, I didn't realize it, but the PS2 almost outsold the 360. And what the hell is Guitar Hero: Aerosmith doing on the list? Gaming is obviously in a S - L - O - W phase right now. I'm bummed Dark Athena didn't make the list.

E. Zachary Knight's picture

What's really sad is that the PS3 was out sold by Sony's last gen console by almost 50,000 units. I think this is the first time it has happened since year two.

E. Zachary Knight's picture

Let's see:

7 titles from Activision/Blizzard (Really just Blizzard. Activision just inherited the success)
6 titles from EA
2 from THQ
And everyone else is at one title.

Someone needs to shake things up. A small number of companies are raking in the sales.

Glad to see Demigod in the Top Ten.

toadwarrior's picture

Just goes to show you how bad PC gaming has become when the ancient Diablo and Starcraft battlechests still appear in the top 20.

E. Zachary Knight's picture

No. It shows how good those games are. If people are still buying them 10+ years after release, other companies need to take notice and find out what makes them so special.

Both games are awesome games with a ton of replayability. To say they are indicators of PC gaming's poor health is a moronic statement.

Peter_Pesic's picture

The only way to really know is if the actual sales numbers are posted. Regardless of the quality and timelessness of the games, it's hard to imagine that those older Blizzard games are selling in huge quantities.

Still the health of PC games cannot be judged by retail numbers, as digital transactions for many PC games probably outnumber physical boxed copy sales. I've only used Steam a little bit (because my PC's specs are terrible), but that experience has me thinking I never want to buy a boxed copy of a game again if I can help it.

Raul23's picture

No, this really does show how poor the retail PC market is. Games that are 5-10+ years old are dominating the charts. Obviously, online is still doing robust business for the PC, but traditional, retail AAA-gaming on the PC is truly dead, gone, and buried--PC retail is now nothing more than a glorified jewel case rack.

P.S.

Hidden & Dangerous 2

dreamhunk's picture

I agree with this guy here your looking at dead retail chart if that is NDPcharts look like. If retail pc gaming retail dies or is dead. You have gamestop,Eb games, micro soft, publisher wth drm to blame. Well people wanted pc gaming dead well it's dead at retail now. Either that blizzard is making a ton of money, which they are either way.

Pc gamers from here on in will drive the rest of console retail into the ground! It's pure pc game profit for game devs in a ression with no rented games or used game market. Oh and there is still pircay on consoles that is getting bigger. No more retail treating us like garbage. Retail and consoles is pretty much doomed! It's good for independent and indie devs too. Pc gamers are now truely digital and it came much sooner than I had thought.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZEJ4OJTgg8

:) yup Hidden & Dangerous I guess it starts in the US. If that doesn't happen and pc gaming dies! you can kiss both gaming and the pc Industry good by. AMD,Invida and Intel will never ever be the same ever agin and lot of game devs are going to lose their jobs. You have no idea the number companies that will go bankurpt if pc gaming dies.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-10238991-64.html
http://money.cnn.com/2009/05/12/technology/copeland_intel.fortune/?postv...

So it's either pc gaming has gone totaly DD or It's dead in the US! I f that is the case you can kiss the whole gaming Industry good by for good! Pc gaming is the backbone of the pc industry! Something is going to give either it's retail and consoles or Pc gaming.

"Pc gamers from here on in will drive the rest of console retail into the ground! ", i stopped reading from here. You are officially the biggest idiot on the internet.

dreamhunk's picture

you can stop reading all you want it's not going to help your industry.

You see this right here EA likes money they go where the money is, Any game dev who wants money will be going to where the money is,it's called profit ,pure profit no middle man, no micro soft and no sony taking your part of the money. No travel costs, No shipping. You don't need to deal with retails. The PC DD has the whole world at it's figure tips. Yea any business dumb enough not to take that kind of profit is dumb!

http://www.destructoid.com/ea-pc-is-becoming-the-largest-gaming-platform...

.Another thing lets say pc gaming is dead because of pircay well the entire pc Indsutry is heading for major trouble. It means no games end of story! The entire gaming Industry would be dead. why pirates would just over and hack the hell out consoles. There would be no software to perduce game either why because CGI software could be pirated too from other business. The entire pc Industry would fall apart fast because the pc Industry relys on software. You think software companies who make CGI software is not watching the pc gaming Industry too. It's going to one big domino effect . Sorry I was reading a thread saying pc is because of pircay.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/study-says-software-piracy-is-grow...

http://news.softpedia.com/news/Hacked-Xbox-360-s-on-the-Chinese-Market-3...

So yea you can stop reading all you want, but I only deal with facts and truth.

yea it's going to real funny when pc gaming drives console retail sales into the ground. How is pircay, rented games and used game market doing these days. I hear wal -mart is getting into the used game market. No need to buy consoles or new games when they can be rented or be bought at your local pawn shop. Oh I for got the pircay rates getting bigger on consoles.
