NPD: BioShock 2 Tops February Chart

Take-Twoís shooter edges New Super Mario Bros. Wii to claim the top spot on the monthly hardware rankings.

The Xbox 360 version of BioShock 2 topped February software sales in the US marketplace, according to the NPD Group.

Take-Two’s shooter sold 563,000 copies on 360, 7,000 units more than second placed New Super Mario Bros. Wii. NPD noted that PS3 sales of BioShock 2 came in a little short of 200,000 units.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for 360 placed third, with the PS3 version taking sixth place. NPD said that the title “has become the third-bestselling [US] game of all-time, now at just under 10 million units life-to-date".

Just Dance and Wii Sports Resort took fourth and fifth respectively, while last month’s number two, Mass Effect 2, slipped to seventh.

New entry Dante's Inferno took eight and ninth, the PS3 version narrowly outperforming the 360 edition, while PS3 exclusive Heavy Rain debuted in tenth place.

Overall, four 360 games made the top ten, alongside three titles for Wii and three for PS3.

February software sales dropped 15 per cent year-on-year, from $736.7 million to $624.4 million, according to NPD.
