NPD, GfK ChartTrack and Enterbrain Join Forces

Leading sales monitors the NPD Group, GfK Chart-Track and Enterbrain have released the Top Global Markets Report, the first in a new series of monthly reports detailing videogame software sales across the US, UK and Japan.

The first of the multi-continent reports lists Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV as 2008’s bestseller to date with 6,293,000 units sold, despite the fact that the game only released in late April in the US and UK and has yet to hit the Japanese market.

The report, which allows users to track titles, unit sales and share, as well as dollar sales and revenue share, features Super Smash Bros. Brawl in second place with 5,433,000 sales, followed by Mario Kart Wii with 4,697,000, Wii Fit with 3,604,000 and Guitar Hero III with 3,475,000.

“The videogames business has become increasingly global, with the majority of the publishers releasing games in multiple markets,” said NPD analyst Anita Frazier. “The US, as the world’s largest market will be able to view and compare sales for the first time outside of their own market.”
