US hardware sales suffered a 37 per cent year-over-year decline in the US during July.

Monthly sales “slowed considerably on nearly every platform,” according to NPD analyst Anita Frazier, generating $280.94 million in total.

The Xbox 360 is currently the only console showing a unit sales increase year-to-date, while the DS has the highest sales of all platforms both for the month and year-to-date.

DS – 538,900
Wii – 252,500
Xbox 360 – 202,900
PSP – 122,800
PS3 – 121,800
PS2 – 108,000

That shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to anyone about the Wii. It's sales were so outrageously high, there was no way they could maintain that forever.
I think now that the masses have a Wii, it will become a much close race among the 3. Doesn't mean the others will catch up or surpass, but just closer from here on out.

Interesting how the 360 has come within stricking distance of Wii sales. I don't think too many people expected that when 2009 started. I don't see Nintendo dropping the price of the Wii this year, but I fully expect them to do so early next year as momentum has finally stalled for that system. Maybe Nintendo will throw in another game along with Wii Sports this Holiday to sweeten the deal.
