NPD: Nintendo Games Ruled December Sales

New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort took the top three spots on the monthly software chart.

Nintendo titles dominated US retail console game sales during December, according to monthly data released by the NPD Group.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort took the top three places on the software chart, selling over seven million copies combined.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 took fourth and fifth, the Xbox 360 version moving 1.63 million units and the PS3 edition 1.12 million copies.

Wii launch title Wii Play managed to sell another million units during December to place sixth, one spot ahead of the fifth Nintendo game on the chart, Mario Kart Wii.

Assassin's Creed II, Left 4 Dead 2 and Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story rounded off the top ten.

Total monthly software sales declined seven per cent year-on-year to $2.58 billion.
