Nintendo consoles dominated hardware sales in the US marketplace during April.
While DS sales were down from over one million units last April, the system remained the clear leader with 440,000 sales, ahead of Wii’s 277,000.
Xbox 360 continued to narrowly outpace PS3, with both consoles selling three times as many units as PSP.
NPD failed to provide PS2 sales data.
"The PS3 and the Xbox 360 both enjoyed a unit sales increase over last April while all other systems declined,” said NPD analyst Anita Frazier. “Compared to March '10 on an average sales per week basis, all platforms declined between 37 per cent and 63 per cent.
"The NDS is approaching the PS2 as the best-selling hardware system of all time, and by October or November of this year, it should meet or exceed the install base of the PS2," she added.
DS – 440,800
Wii – 277,200
X360 – 185,400
PS3 – 180,800
PSP – 65,500
