NPD: Splinter Cell Heads Monthly Software Chart

UbisoftĂs title was the only new game to enter April's US top ten. [Update: PS3 GTA: Episodes From Liberty City and 2010 FIFA World Cup sales figures added]

Ubisoft's Splinter Cell: Conviction was the bestselling game in the US marketplace during April.

With 486,000 sales, it was the only new release to crack the monthly top ten. That meant there was no place for the PS3 version of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City or EA’s 2010 FIFA World Cup, which released on April 13 and 27 respectively.

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter said in an NPD follow-up note that GTA: Episodes From Liberty City “sold slightly more than our estimate of 100,000 units (packaged good sales only not including digital downloads)”, while “2010 FIFA World Cup sold almost double our estimate of 50,000”.

Pokemon SoulSilver took second place on the chart, ahead of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Pokemon HeartGold and God Of War III.

US sales monitor the NPD Group opted to release sales figures for the top five games instead of the top ten as usual.

01. Splinter Cell: Conviction (360, Ubisoft) - 486,000
02. Pokemon SoulSilver (DS, Nintendo) - 242,900
