O2 Delays Buggy Xperia Play
UK mobile network operator O2 has delayed the planned April 1 release of Sony Ericsson’s “PlayStation Phone”, Xperia Play, after testers encountered several bugs in the system software.
Writing on the O2 blog, head of testing Stuart Hibberd notes that bugs in mobile phone software are far from a rare occurrence, but that the firm has decided to withhold the launch until Sony Ericsson irons out all the kinks.
“We’ve been testing the phone non-stop for several weeks,” he writes, “and have found some bugs in the software that, if they’re not fixed, means customers won’t have a great experience.
“We’ve been working with Sony Ericsson to get these bugs ironed out, but haven’t been able to get them fixed in time for us to be able to launch the phone on April 1 as we originally planned.”
Hibberd does not give a revised release date for the phone, which Sony finally unveiled last month after years of rumours, merely saying O2 will “be working with Sony Ericsson over the next couple of weeks” and will update customers with their progress.
