Presenting E206 and its cover star, PS3 Slim, in which we get the inside story on the console that could turn the platform’s fortunes around.
Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida and Andrew House explain the thinking behind hardware that, in the US at least, is half the price it was launched at three years ago. They also give us insight into what lies ahead for software headed to the PlayStation family of consoles, while several prominent developers and industry commentators give their perspective on what they see in PS3.
Subscribers, however, are treated to their own special cover, which they already have in their hands. We travelled to Frontier Developments to see LostWinds: Winter Of The Melodias and understand how the team is developing the WiiWare series, and what place it takes within this storied development studio.

Our special subscriber-only cover, featuring LostWinds sequel Winter Of The Melodias
Elsewhere in the issue, we speak in-depth with Bungie’s Joseph Staten about Halo 3: ODST’s campaign and how they justify not including the Battle Rifle and meet Thatgamecompany’s Jenova Chen to ask him about where his love for games came from and how he intends to take his games-making to the next level. We also held a roundtable discussion on the future of interactive storytelling with Far Cry 2 creative director Clint Hocking, Ragnar Tornquist, director of The Secret World at FunCom and Valve’s Chet Faliszek, the man behind Left 4 Dead’s multiplayer storytelling.
Look out for our guide to the top 50 iPhone games, as well as a report on the huge launches of Dragon Quest IX and Monster Hunter 3 in Japan and a visit to Relentless to see its new, self-published PSN game series, Blue Toad Murder Files.

Not bad. Seems EDGE has done a better job of marketing the PS3 SLIM right there on the front cover than Sony has managed so far. For once in a while I actually prefer the non-subscription cover. Anyway it matters not, I have canceled my EDGE Subscription after some hard thought. I just feel the quality is not there anymore and was quite amazed by certain coverage of certain elements more so than others. I was not the only one either; there were some angry words exchanged with EDGE in the comments section in issue 205.
"Subscribers, however, are treated to their own special cover, which they already have in their hands."
I don't have my copy in my hands. I'm still waiting, thanks to the damn postal strikes. At least the subscriber's cover will be worth waiting for, unlike that ugly non-subs cover. Eurgh.
That non-subs cover makes 'What Laptop' magazine look positively EPIC! However, sorry to sound morbid, but is it me, or is it reminiscent of a gravestone?.........(I own a ps3)........
I could't live without you, EDGE. I just wish your news section in the mag was bigger, 'cause I like to look at older EDGES as a kind of diary of events and with the slimmer news section it's no longer possible.
Are you printing purposely dull newstand covers to entice people to subscribe? Or do they actually sell more magazines?
Same with the NMH2 cover a few months back.
I subscribe anyway, but god, those newstand covers are just so utterly bland.
Makes sense, subs get pretty, non subs get something with information on the front to let them know whats in it.
NGamer generally have the right idea- bland, wordy information on the bag that sites on WHSmith's shelves, interesting cover on the inside for both subscribers and retail customers.
Now only if they could find a way of doing it *and* letting you see inside the mag at the same time...
Not the usual 360 bias this month then? (sorry, I couldn't resist...)
There's a graph in there which is positively pro-playstation! I assume they've just mis-labelled the axes, or something.
I am sure next month the entire magazine will be dedicated to Natal and how great it and Xbox are.
