Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter expects DS sales to decline throughout 2010 in the US.
“We believe Nintendo’s DS biggest sales challenge will be its own high installed base (36 million in the US), and expect that December will mark the beginning of an overall decline in DS sales that will persist throughout 2010,” the analyst said in a research note.
Pachter also suggested that PS3 and Xbox 360 will receive price cuts over the coming year.
“Xbox 360 sales have kept pace with PS3 sales since the price cuts, and we expect this to persist well into 2010, but this implies solid year-over-year growth for the PS3. We think that the PS3 may slightly outsell the Xbox 360 in December, due to significant advertising during the holidays. We expect another price cut for both systems some time this year (around summer), but note that because its manufacturing costs are lower, Microsoft has the ability to lower price as early as March or April. At a minimum, we anticipate the introduction of a more feature-packed Xbox 360 in early 2010 (likely with a 250Gb hard drive) at the same $299 price point, and think that Microsoft will cut price early in the year only if it begins to lose significant market share to Sony.”
The analyst also noted that PSPgo sales are unlikely to pick up significantly without a price cut and predicted that PS2 will “cease being relevant” this year.
“The PSP Go launched on October 1 to little fanfare, and we do not see dramatic sales gains for that device until it is priced more reasonably.”
Oh, Patchy. You used to be cool.
