Panasonic has announced that development of its Jungle portable gaming console will cease, citing "changes in the market" and in its own "strategic direction" as reasons for the decision. Two of those changes are most likely the recently unveiled Nintendo 3DS and Sony's NGP, both of which offer online connectivity.
Panasonic had begun public testing of its clamshell device, designed specifically for online games, in November last year. The company also announced that it was working with "leading online game developers to create some exciting new content." Bigpoint's Battlestar Galactica was the only formally-announced title.
The Jungle was Panasonic's first dedicated videogaming hardware since the ill-fated 3DO in 1993, though the company also produced the Gamecube hybrid, Panasoinc Q.
