Pandemic Studios has announced that a new game in EA’s Mercenaries franchise is in the early stages of development at EALA.
Dubbed Mercs Inc, the title is the latest entry in the action series that spawned 2005’s Mercenaries and last year’s Mercenaries 2: World In Flames. Its official announcement appears to have been hastened by a leaked video that hit the net this week, featuring footage of what appeared to be a multiplayer-focused Mercenaries game.
Mercs Inc will be the first Pandemic game to be developed by the studio at its new home. Last week EA confirmed that it had closed Pandemic’s Los Angeles-based office, laying off the majority of its employees but moving a core team of staff to EALA.
"We are very excited to announce a new instalment in the popular Mercenaries series because it demonstrates our continued commitment to Pandemic's rich catalogue of intellectual properties," said Nick Earl, senior VP and group general manager at EA. "From the studio at EALA, a core creative team is forging new ground and conceptualising new ideas for this exciting franchise."
Platforms and a launch date for Mercs Inc weren’t announced.
