Pandemic co-founder sets up social studio

Greg Borrud, co-founder of Mercenaries and Full Spectrum Warrior developer Pandemic Studios, has unveiled his new venture, social game developer Seismic Games.

Speaking to TechCrunch, Borrud, who is co-founder along with fellow Pandemic staffer Eric Gerwitz and ex-Vivendi VP Chris Miller, said Seismic would not be working to the accepted social gaming model on Facebook.

"The games will be character-focused and highly customised, igniting a new wave of players looking for more sophisticated narrative and deeper engagement from their experiences online," he said.

"User-generated and realtime content will also play a central role in the gameplay, as will branded and professional entertainment partnerships which connect online and offline opportunities to audiences enjoying the game."

Borrud, Gerwitz and Miller formed Seismic last year, and the studio has already secured $2 million in funding from more than a dozen investors. It intends to release its debut game during the first quarter of the year.
