Konami’s PES 2010 debuted atop the UK all formats chart during the week ended October 24.
The publisher said last week that it had shipped three million copies of PES 2010 to retail for release and that it expected the title to become a million-seller at launch.
The title didn’t manage to match the launch of its predecessor, selling 39 per cent less than PES 2009 did in its first week across PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, according to GfK Chart-Track. The PS3 version of PES 2010 accounted for 66 per cent of opening week sales, ahead of the 360 (32 per cent) and PC (two per cent) editions. PSP, PS2 and Wii versions will be released on November 20.
Xbox 360 exclusive Forza Motorsport 3 entered the chart in second place, one spot ahead of FIFA 10, which had topped the rankings for the previous three weeks.
Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games moved up a spot to fourth, while WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2010 debuted at number five.
Uncharted 2 slipped from second to sixth, Borderlands entered the chart in seventh place, and Wii Sports Resort fell four spots to eighth.
Need For Speed Shift and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising rounded off the top ten, dropping three and seven places respectively.

UK 2009 chart history
It's good to hear PES it's getting back up there, I know a few PES hardcores (all European guys) who swore the only thing better about FIFA was the licensing until they played Fifa 08. There isn't a review around that prefers PES, but for the fans a game that's good and keeps the feel PES always had will be a welcome change. However I'm hearing they've opted for more arcadey gameplay which may not go down so well.... In the long run. For now they'll lap up the first true current gen feeling PES to come around in a while.
The only football game I've enjoyed was Pele's Championship Soccer which came out in 1980 for the Atari console. For me the only football video game that actually created the feeling of playing football giving you full control of your team at all times. The computer AI was no challenge once you learnt how to play but 2 equally matched players was where the game truly came alive, creating the most intense, exciting games you could wish for.
A classic example of gameplay over looks.
I've never owned a football game (except olympic soccer, which shipped with the ps1) and was wondering;
do people buy PES and FIFA, or is it a 1 or the other game? I mean, people buy Halo and COD, but they do involve different scenarios as well as slightly different mechanics, wheras FIFA and PES don't?
I bought PES 5 and FIFA 07.
I know people who buy FIFA, trade it in for PES, and then decide which they like better, and trade PES back in for FIFA if they prefer that. To be honest though, the PES hardcore have now turned into the people they were laughing at for buying FIFA every year.
Really? Wow, I stand corrected.
