Graphics firm Nvidia is now a third-party tools provider for the Nintendo Wii, a deal that makes the PhysX SDK real-time physics engine available to all registered Wii developers.
PhysX is used in over 150 games and is also supported on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
Games that use PhysX can create more realistic explosions, character motions, weapon effects, cloth and smoke.
Nvidia SVP of content and technology Tony Tamasi said, “...Adding a PhysX SDK for the Wii is key to our cross-platform strategy and integral to the business model for our licensed game developers and publishers."
Nvidia's news follows the recent announcement that Emergent Game Technologies would be integrating PhysX for Wii developers into its Gamebryo game engine.
Agreed! However perhaps now we can see more than just shovelware on the Wii. I like my Wii, but lack of interesting games for me since Mario Kart Wii has left me wanting a PS3 in all honesty.
Very cool (and about time!) - it's too bad these deals couldn't have been done while the console was in development. it would have been cool to see it implemented in a few of the launch window and later wii releases.
