Sony Computer Entertainment America will be evolving the PS3 and PSP through free firmware updates later this month, the company said Monday.
PS3 firmware update 2.5 will add special support for the official PS3 Bluetooth headset, such as on-screen volume, battery and mute indicators, as well as a "high quality" mode; in-game screenshot capture (for supporting games in the future); and an improved Trophy system featuring new options to compare Trophies with other players.
The major feature coming with PSP firmware update 5.00 is the previously-announed ability to connect directly to the PlayStation Store, eliminating the need to connect the PSP to a PS3 or PC to download content to the handheld.
Also added with the PSP update is an on-screen QWERTY keyboard, a sleep timer for music playback and improved video-out for the PSP-2000, allowing PlayStation titles to be displayed full screen on home televisions.
