This week’s official ChartTrack and ELSPA all-format listings show that Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 has emerged at the top of the
For the week ending Oct 18, FIFA 09 was stung by a 54% drop in sales following the release of its rival. And the data shows that PES 09 had enjoyed its sales surge from the
While the Pro Evo series is indeed an multi-format title, its scores of UK fans had accumulated from the PS2 iterations of the series, many of whom had bought their first Pro Evo game on the original PlayStation. With such a franchise so rooted in the conscience of Playstation brand-buyers, the PES 09 sale allocations may not be so surprising. Last year the PS2 version was the top seller of PES 08 with a 42% slice of sales, with 30% for the 360 and 26% for the PS3.
Despite Konami’s renowned soccer sim taking the top spot in the charts, it may be EA who is happiest with its sales performance, as FIFA 09 on its launch week had sold over 2.6 times more than PES has.
Meanwhile, THQ will surely be happy with its Saints Row 2 debut which comes in third place. Lego Batman drops two places to fourth spot, while Wii Fit falls the same number despite selling more than last week. In fact, Wii Sports and Mario Kart Wii were the only two games that saw a week-on-week sales increase.
Finally, though out of the list below, Bioshock jumps to fourteenth spot in the chart following the release of its PS3 version.
