Pro feedback delays Counter-Strike beta

Valve writer Chet Faliszek has admitted that the company delayed the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive multiplayer beta following feedback from professional players who have been helping test the game.

The beta for Counter-Strike's eagerly-awaited return was initially planned to launch last month, but in a video interview with ESEA News, reported by CVG, Faliszek said players had fed back a list of bug reports and feature suggestions that, were they not addressed, would mean the beta would fail in its bid to assess the game's netcode.

"[Professional players] gave us a lot of feedback on things we should get in the game before we release it, otherwise we're going to be getting a lot of bug reports or a lot of feedback and [the beta] would just be redundant," he said. "We are testing those changes but we can't just put in everything at once...we're pushing as hard as we can."

The beta will initially be open to 10,000 players, with more added over time, and Faliszek said Valve is in no mood to hurry the game out in an unfinished state. "When does [the beta] end? When the community tells us and it's ready," he said. "We have no mandate from anybody of when we have to ship this. We're more than happy to just keep working on this until it's ready to ship.

"By the end of it, everyone will be playing the game. It will be the released game that you're playing and then at some point we'll say: 'Okay, we're going to officially release it'."

Announced in August, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, a reboot of the seminal online PC shooter, will be released for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac early next year.
