Professor Layton Tops Japanese Chart

New DS title shifts 306,000 copies in its debut week, outselling the rest of the top ten combined.

Level 5’s Professor Layton And The Flute Of Malevolent Destiny debuted atop the Japanese software chart during the week ended November 29.

The DS title sold 306,000 copies – slightly more than the rest of the top ten combined – according to data from sales tracker Media Create (via el33tonline).

59,000 sales ensured that Tomadachi Collection for DS remained in second place, 5,000 units ahead of the previous week’s bestseller, Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver, which rounded off a DS top three.

Wii Fit Plus jumped nine places to re-enter the top ten in fourth, Momotaro Railway 2010 for Wii debuted in fifth and Inazuma Eleven 2 fell two places to sixth.

The first non-Nintendo platform title to chart was Konami’s World Soccer Winning Eleven 2010 for PS3, which held seventh. Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games, Wii Sports Resort and Taiko Drum Master Wii completed the top ten.

Media Create has yet to release weekly hardware sales data for the Japanese market, but we’ll post it when it’s made available.
