The PS3 version of the BBC iPlayer, which launched on September 1 as part of the console’s most recent firmware update, already accounts for ten per cent of all iPlayer viewing, the public service broadcaster has said.
“User response to our new iPlayer for PS3 has been amazing,” said Anthony Rose, controller for BBC Online Media Group and Vision. “Although it's less than a week since we launched, iPlayer on PS3 now accounts for a massive 10% of all iPlayer viewing, overtaking Mac (8.5%) to be our 2nd most popular platform for IP-delivered content.”
The PS3 iPlayer, which allows users to stream BBC television and radio content via their console, is accessible via a new icon on the PS3’s cross-media bar. According to Rose, Sony’s work enhancing the console’s Flash playback experience means that users can now enjoy “brilliant video quality almost as good as broadcast television.”
Apart from top gear and mock the week their really isnt much on it worth watching.
The BBC IPlayer is a useful tool, but is currently unuseable between 6-11pm GMT due to BT traffic shaping limits. I know there has been some discussion on net neutrality and cost in the UK, but neither firms seem to have resolved this issue.
BT record that traffic shaping occurs only on the cheapest broadband option, but this is not entirely accurate.
Works very well, good picture quality and fast. Just a shame that most of the programmes are garbage, just like normal TV then :D
