SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has said that it is a challenge trying to balance software support for multiple platforms, acknowledging that Sony’s previously PS3-heavy focus lead to a dearth of PSP software.

"We look at all the titles we are working on and try to see if there are any holes or areas where our focus isn't enough," he told Gamasutra of the company’s software strategy. "A couple of years ago we clearly put too much focus on PS3 titles and that caused a lack of support for the PSP last year. So we need to be focused and gear a lot of our resources back to the PSP, and we have many titles this year.

"We are continuing to support the PSP,” Yoshida added. “We didn't announce new titles at [Tokyo Game Show 2009], but in the near future we'll have some announcements."

Big name first party franchises to debut on PSP this year include Gran Turismo, MotorStorm and LittleBigPlanet, while third parties have brought the likes of Assassin's Creed and Rock Band to the platform.

Yoshida also said that the company has “about 85 to 90 per cent” of next year’s software releases mapped out, and that it’s currently in the process of “making decisions on titles that we want to release in 2011 and some in 2012, in terms of concepts and prototypes”.

I'd like to hear Greenberg's express his views on the mistakes MS have made.

Knowing him, it will be things like:

Didn't call Sony gay nearly enough times.

Not enough game tattoos.

Didn't tell everyone that Peter Moore is a failure for leaving.

Last week Mr. Iwata and now this week, Mr. Yoshida. At this rate, Aaron Greenberg may even offer a candid assessment next week of mistakes MS has made. ;)

I'd like to see more games, like Field Commander, which are particularly well suited to handhelds, rather than traditional console franchises adapted to the format.

Haha, awesome. I remain confident that Greenberg's assessment will out-candid Yoshida's not only for the full calendar year, but for this entire generation.

Maybe hire an extra person, Sony?

Certainly this year has had some decent games, GT PSP, Loco Roco 2 and the new midnight one on PSN, LBP, Dissidia FF, etc. Meanwhile on DS a Hannah Montana game and more brain training software. There are loads of cool JRPG's for DS but they are shadowed by the dross in the UK. This should be Sony's chance.

Erm, the PSP has just seen Hannah Montana Rock Out The Show, which you can also get in with a Lilac PSP.

...well - I bought my daughter a Hannah Montana scooter - so ner!

Just don't do the opposite and lose the PS3 focus, Sony, now that you've finally got things a little more in order.

This has to be correct. I mean Nintendo's DS is doing great... Wii is rather lacking, though. In my eyes anyway.
