PS3 Facebook Integration Confirmed

Updates to photo and friends list features also coming in PS3 firmware version 3.10.

Sony’s confirmed leaked news that Facebook is to be incorporated into PS3 via the next firmware update, version 3.10.

“By linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, you will have the option for the PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity,” said Eric Lempel, director of PlayStation Network operations.

“This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed. You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3’s built-in web browser.

“This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates,” he added.

Additionally, the photo section on PS3’s XMB is being “revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos” and the PSN friends list is being modified “based on feedback we received after update 3.00”.

While the release date for the new PS3 features hasn’t been confirmed, their announcement comes on the day that social networking sites Facebook and Twitter are to be made publicly available on Xbox 360, alongside other new features such as Last.fm streaming radio and Zune Video.
