Sony has released PS3 firmware update 3.01, which will rectify problems some users have been experiencing while playing Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.
In SCEA’s official announcement the firmware was billed by Eric Lempel, director of PlayStation Network operations, as an “optional update that improves system stability during use of some PlayStation 3 format software”.
Addressing a question in the comments section on the PS Blog, Lempel added: “Yes, this will fix the issues that some users have experienced with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.”
Earlier this month a number of users reported running into technical problems after installing PS3 firmware 3.00, including the inability to synch up controllers with consoles and game “freezes” mid-session while playing Uncharted.
SCEA later said that it was aware of “isolated issues” being experienced by users and that it was “looking into the matter”.
While the new firmware will clear up problems users have been having playing Uncharted, no official announcement has been made with regard to controller functionality issues.
Released on September 1 and billed as the last “significant” PS3 firmware update of 2009, version 3.00 introduced new trophy and friends list features, as well as dynamic dashboard themes and PlayStation Store shortcuts.
