Sales of the PS3 jumped 20,000 units during the week ending March 1; up from 16,149 to 36,513 in line with the runaway sales success of Sega’s Yakuza 3. The PS3 exclusive title sold 372,000 copies in its first week.
The PS3 sales surge was enough to see it inch ahead of the pack. Nintendo’s DSi hit an all-time low (35,827) since its release in November last year, though the decline occurred as Nintendo announced new colours for the system.
Sony’s PSP, meanwhile, was within touching distance of Nintendo’s camera-enabled handheld, selling 35,588 units for the week. That figure sees the system pick up sales from the week prior, which had at the time dropped to 29,552 units.
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 sees its sales storm survive only a single week, as unit sales fell over 53 percent to 11,795. The Wii, meanwhile, saw sales climb slightly; up around a thousand units to 17,876.
