Sony Computer Entertainment America president Jack Tretton has said that retailers could experience PS3 shortages if a recent lift in sales continues.
The executive said that PS3 sales have risen 300 per cent in the three weeks since Sony reduced the price of the system by $100 to $299 in the States, compared to the three weeks prior to the cut.
"We are up about 300 per cent over where we were pre-price drop. We are up significantly versus last year," Tretton told Reuters, noting that the company is on track to meet its goal of 13 million PS3 sales worldwide this fiscal year.
"In a very difficult economy, I couldn't be more optimistic about our fortunes for the rest of the year and for the future. If things continue at this pace, it is conceivable that there will be product shortages."
OH NO!!! *Slaps face, rushes off to buy PS3 slim*
It worked pretty well for Nintendo, although they intentionally limited production to actually keep Wii's off of store shelves to ramp up demand. Several people in my office went or called their local stores daily to find them last year, and the story was always the same: "We don't know when we'll get any in. When they do show up, they sell out within the hour. No, we won't hold one for you, or call you."
"Fine then, f*ck ya. I'll get a 360 instead!" was the usual response. At least, that was my response.
Oh, Jack, here you go again. You think these guys would have learned by now. The false shortages they touted when PS3 launch were quickly exposed and now they're just making themselves look silly all over again with the same ludicrous statements.
Are you utterly stupid he said it was conceivable that there will be product shortages. Here let me help you CONCEIVABLE-Capable of being conceived or imagined; possible; credible; thinkable. Now answer me this how is saying that something could be possible a ludicrous statement? I rest my case.
My thoughts exactly:

Sony didn't maintain that momentum of the first week into the second, though that shouldn't be expected no matter the console in question.
