PS3 Slim production contracts have reportedly been awarded to two Taiwanese manufactures.
According to UDN.com (via Joystiq), sources indicate that Foxconn and Pegatron, both of whom have previously manufactured PS3, will share production of the orders.
The units are expected to start shipping in early July "to cope with expected summer vacation demands," according to the piece.
The report follows on from a story earlier this week which tipped PS3 Slim for an autumn release.
To date, Sony has insisted that it has no plans for a redesigned PS3.
They couldnt make the normal version work right what makes you think a more compact version wouldnt just be a ticking timebomb.
I honestly hope it doesnt look like that its ugly as hell.
Hmm, any time I've ever seen a rumor with actual leaked adds or a box, those are the ones that have always come true. The first 360 drop of 50 bucks was leaked by circuit city I believe (among other ad-leaks). So, hopefully this one comes with a price drop (and they don't nerf the system either) and some new features (BC?).
Sweet!
This is the PS3 I want. It's kind've a "dick" thing to do not announcing this. I get that they're trying to run down their stock, but I'd be pretty mad if I bought a Playstation only to find out that the cooler came out a month later.
Although after the 'Go, I'm nervous. I didn't think it was possible to screw that up. Maybe this thing will have composite connectors or a standard DVD-Drive or something. I wouldn't put anything past them at this point.
Announcement: Both Playstations will coexist. For our customers who want Blu-Ray & the newest tech, they can buy the Model-1. For our more casual customers who don't care about High Definition content, they have the Slim Model-2 option.
Yeah, something like that.
Well the PS3 games are on Blu-Ray, so it's obviously going to have a blu-ray drive, isn't it? (the only other vague alternative would be sony going nuts with it's downloading games boner, but by the shape of the picture, it looks like it has a disc drive).
Also, while they haven't announced this yet, they have apparently started telling retailers to discount the fat PS3 (I think I read that off kotaku), so I don't really think they're trying to shaft anybody. I just hope that they get the PS2 emulation available for download onto PSfats, rather than just the slim ones (I gave my girlfriend my PS2 to use as a DVD player, but i still haven't played shadow of the collossus).
As long as it's just a regular PS3 & looks like this, I'm so there!

Is that picture on the right a Sony PSWii?
I hope they make it flat on top so I can stack it with other hi-fi equipement. I'd probably buy one for my parents if they made it $100 cheaper and had it look more like a VCR or DVD player.
[edited: changed Wii to PSWii.. much more humorous that way. How cool would that be if Sony came out with a Wii emulator.. I think my parents would buy one for themselves at that point.]
Count me in as well!
All we need now is a Slim-360
Same specs' as the Pro & only $50 more. There's a premium price on new technology you know.
