Sony has confirmed that PlayStation 3 firmware update 2.40 will introduce a new “trophies” feature and enable in-game access to the XMB.
“We’re happy to officially report that the 2.40 system software update for PS3 will include “XMB” (XrossMediaBar) access in-game," PSN director of operations Eric Lempel wrote in a post on the PlayStation Blog.
"The update will also include “trophies,” an exciting new feature that we’ll be providing more details on soon, as well as some other new enhancements.
“We know that many of you can’t wait to get your hands on these features. You can expect us to share all of the official details shortly.”
Firmware 2.4 will follow the newly released version 2.36, which improves system stability when playing select PlayStation titles, according to Lempel.
Meanwhile, PSP firmware update 4.00 has gone live, introducing a Google search tool directly accessible from the handheld’s XMB interface.
