Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will launch a new video-on-demand music service for PlayStation 3 users this summer.
The free, ad-supported service, dubbed VidZone, will let PS3 users in the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, German, Spain and Australia stream music videos and live concert videos, create a video library and playlists.
“[VidZone] gives you the freedom to view thousands of music videos on demand by streaming them directly to PS3,” said SCEE. “Backed by several major record labels as well as thousands of independent labels, VidZone will bring PlayStation music fans a wealth of the hottest music videos from artists they want to watch at their own leisure and in the comfort of their living room.”
Users will be able to download the VidZone application from the PlayStation Store, after which it will be appear under the music icon on the PS3’s XMB interface.
“Music has always been popular on PS3 and now VidZone is set to transform the way we view music videos by letting you completely tailor your experience and is just one more reason for PS3 to be the most valued player in your living room,” said Isabelle Tomatis, SCEE’s hardware and platforms marketing manager.
This is great news, Sony keeps adding futures that we all love.
But seriously, I am so sick and tired of region specific content distribution.
Come on, we are over this kind of locked content thing, why are we still getting it?
With the net so big and vast, content everywhere, for everyone to get, this is very stone-age.
For us in the Nordic countries it is laughable bad, we don`t even has a video service for Xbox 30 as of yet, and we will never get it. When people talk about videos, movies from netflix and so on, as an add-on bonus feature for the Microsoft box, that don`t apply to us, it sucks, really.
But hopefully Sony will get it right and give everyone the same content, back away from region specific content and give everyone the same content on the same day.
