PS4 won’t support DualShock 3

Sony has confirmed that PS4 won’t support DualShock 3 controllers – unsurprising, perhaps, but this news comes with that caveat that the system will support PS Move controllers.

“[The PlayStation 4] doesn’t support DualShock 3 but it does support PS Move,” Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida clarified in an interview with Polygon.

Given the DualShock 4 controller features both the new Share button, a touchpad and a Move sensor bar – features absent from the DualShock 3 – Sony’s decision to drop support for the PS3 controller makes sense.

While both devices support the same industry-standard Bluetooth 2.0 technology, meaning Sony could theoretically choose to support DS3s, fragmenting the available controllers would provide an additional headache for developers.
