Sony appears to be making concrete steps towards the introduction of a digital rental service for PSP games.
The platform holder has added "Starts," "Expires," and "Hours Left" options to the information pane within PSP titles, according to The Retail Gamer and GameSpot.
The sites report that the menu fields are identical to those used for PlayStation Store video content, which can be bought or rented via the PlayStation Network in the US.
A Sony survey that surfaced in May also hinted at the platform holder’s interest in a PSP digital rental service. It referenced a subscription-based offering that would feature an extensive catalogue of titles upon launch.
We’ve contacted Sony for comment.

how many discs do we all have that are never played again ...
Rental for games, just as with movies is perfect
Definitely makes sense. If they made this work in a way where you rent the game and pay X amount to play it then If you want to purchase after having it for 24 hours you pay the full price, making a sweet little extra profit if the consumer try's before they buy and this way the bad games will probably still get the odd rental garnering a little cash. I think it's success adds up to what X will turn out to be.
It appears that Sony is starting to take the lead again from within the big 3. I still don't really think digital rental is going to be anything more than a niche offering or more than a kind of pay to demo type affair but I guess you have to respect the fact that Sony are trying something new.
I doubt it will be the Next Big Thing, but it's certainly a nice option. I get games from Love Film and Blockbuster, so game rental is far from dead.
Digital rental is far more appealing to me than buying a digital copy.
