Sony’s PSP has surpassed ten million sales in Japan since launching on December 12, 2004.
According to Famitsu the handheld hit the sales milestone on August 24, a little over three-and-a-half years after it debuted in the country, reports Kotaku.
Last month Sony Computer Entertainment announced that it had sold-in ten million PSPs to Japanese retail as of July 15, 2008. At the time Famitsu publisher Enterbrain said that the PSP was the bestselling system during the first half of 2008, shifting just under two million units.
Famitsu says that Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise leads the all-time PSP software sales chart, taking three of the top five places.
01. Monster Hunter 2nd G (Capcom) 2,396,642
02. Monster Hunter 2nd (Capcom) 1,706,387
03. Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII (Square Enix) 790,705
04. Monster Hunter Portable (Capcom) 668,964
05. Phantasy Star Portable (Sega) 545,242
Yeah, they haven't been smashed by the DS or anything, they're doing grrrrrrreat!!!
Awesome. PSP has been a great success for Sony.
Glad it's been a great success for Sony, because it you ask developers like Ready at Dawn and Ubisoft, they sure don't seem to think so:

lol! Yeah, software has been another story altogether... (though Capcom has seen great success). But when seeing how Nintendo simply crushed each and every other handheld competitor, it's certainly a success for PSP to be relevant for so long.
It's the best-selling handheld loser... gotta give credit when it's due! lol!
