PSP Stays Top in Japan

While the PS3 suffers new low at retail.

Sony’s new PSP3000 easily remains Japan’s biggest-selling console after sales results for the week ending Oct 26 show it had nearly outsold all other consoles combined.

Data from Media Create shows that the new handheld, while taking a considerable drop in sales after its frenzied launch, sold 60,467 units; around 5,000 units short of sales for the Wii, DS, 360, PS2 and PS3 combined. Conversely, Sony’s PS3 suffers its worst sales week yet, dropping 17% in sales from last week by selling a mere 3,931 units.

The PS2 itself, Sony’s cheapest console on the market, sold nearly double that of its successor.
