Liverpool-based developer Bizarre Creations, the studio behind Project Gotham Racing, Geometry Wars and Blur, is to close its doors on Friday (February 18), according to Develop. Owner Activision recommended the studio be closed earlier this month following an unsuccessful attempt to find a buyer.
Activision first announced its intentions to sell the developer in November last year, after James Bond 007: Blood Stone and Blur met with lacklustre sales.
“I want to be clear, our first choice was to try and keep this group together and find a buyer for the studio," Activision Worldwide Studios’ COO Coddy Johnson said when the move was announced. "The decision comes after exhausted examination of a number of different options."
Johnson said Activision explored every possible lead to sell the studio, but that "unfortunately, so far we’ve not been able to find any interested parties. So we’ve made as a last resort, a recommendation to the team for closure."
Bizarre joins Vicarious Visions and 7 Studios among the first teams to feel the effects of Activision's restructuring following its posted loss of US$233 million in the final three months of 2010.
