Report: Nintendo to Open New R&D Facility

Addition will focus on new hardware and software development.

Kyoto, Japan-based Nintendo in December spent 12.8 billion yen ($141 million) on a 40K-square-meter lot that will be home to a new R&D facility, according to Nikkei Net.

A translation by GameSpot stated the new facility will be "devoted to creating new game consoles as well as software for the Wii and DS."

Nintendo's current hardware and software continue to enjoy plenty of popularity. The company recently said that through December, the Wii had sold a total of 45 million units worldwide and 96 million DS units.
