An open beta for the Rock Band Network, a new initiative enabling artists to author their original recordings into gameplay files and sell their music as playable tracks, is set to launch later today.
Announced in July, the Rock Band Network will work with Rock Band 2 and be native to Xbox 360, plus users will need to be members of Microsoft’s XNA Creators Club Online.
“Stand out tracks will follow” on PS3 and Wii, but “all songs will debut exclusively on Xbox 360 for 30 days”.
The service has been in closed beta for some months now and was originally expected to enter open beta in the US in August. Users that register for the open beta will be able to begin uploading music, peer reviewing and previewing tracks today, Harmonix told Destructoid.
However, the developer also said that the Rock Band Network Store won't go live until “a good base of content” is accrued. Artists will be able to price their tracks between $1 and $3.
