Rockstar's Dan Houser has put the projected release date of GTA IV's downloadable content into doubt after explaining that he's "not sure" if the game will come out this year.

In an interview with Variety, the Rockstar co-founder was asked if he still expects the DLC to be released this year, to which he replied: "I'm not sure. It's going well. But we don’t know a date. We hope to be announcing that in the next few weeks. We're still figuring out a few things. We're more focused on quality than dates, always have been."

Microsoft has paid the UK developer a rumoured $50m for the exclusive rights to the DLC, and has made several announcements that the content will be available for download this year. Houser stressed that the development is going well, "shaping up to be something we're very proud of", but was not able to confirm Microsoft's release date projections.

I for one am glad they are concentrating on finishing the work before deciding the date they will make money from it. In a perfect world they are putting the finishing touches to a fully featured replay editing suite for dlc and not just 30-60 seconds of gameplay thats reported to be in the pc port. Back to the real world though and dlc will probably just be a few missions from a different characters point of view.

"I don't care if Mass Effect 1, 2, or 3 come out on the PS3 as long as it doesn't delay the release of those games for the 360."

Exactly, Nick, damn those corporate bastards.
Wait... I forgot that the exact same's happening with FFXIII right now. But let's not follow that argument.

You know what? I for myself couldn't care less about multiplat games or delays at this point. Or DLC, above all. I don't have time to play all my games anyway, why would I care about the overpriced / -hyped afterthoughts?

That is true about FFXIII. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out.

I agree for the most part. My experience with DLC has been fairly limited. Oblivion had good to great DLC (their shivering isles expansion packed prompted MS to allow DLC to come with up to 250 additional achievment points) but most DLC is limited to new cars for racing games, new maps for shooters, etc. I'm lookig for more stuff along the lines of actual expansions or DLC that actually continues the story a bit. I think I've purchased maps for Halo 3, Cars for Test Drive Unlimited (hugely underrated game), Oblivion everything, and songs for GH and RB. I def agree with you on the time issue. I've purchased so many games over the last 2 months that I'll be busy with gaming until probably march (just in time for RE5). I would like to get Mirror's Edge and Prince of Persia, but with the 7 or so games I've purchased not only do I not want to spend any more money, but I just don't have enough time. Damn wife and kids... ^^

Is this DLC ever going to come out? And speaking of DLC what's going on with Bioware's Mass Effect DLC? It was March this year when the first content came out and no news since. And no news of Mass Effect 2 either. I'm really afraid now that EA bought Bioware (MS are idiots for not picking up Bioware) that EA is trying to force Mass Effect multiplatform (i.e for PS3). With EA lopping of staff members, maybe Pandemic and Bioware are regretting their decision of hitching their wagon to EA's star. I don't care if Mass Effect 1, 2, or 3 come out on the PS3 as long as it doesn't delay the release of those games for the 360.
