U.K.-based Jagex has appointed a new head of its highly-successful free-to-play MMO RuneScape.

Vince Farquharson will now oversee the expansion of RuneScape after serving as creative director and development director for three years at THQ. Previously he had worked with Empire Interactive, Computer Artworks and Bullfrog.

RuneScape originally launched in 2001 and currently boasts over 5 million players, which includes 1 million paid subscribers, according to Jagex.
