San Andreas Scoops Five Golden Joysticks

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been named ‘Game of the Year’

at the prestigious Golden Joystick Awards in London. The game won five awards, based on the votes of 200,000 gamers.

More than 600 game industry guzzlers, gathered at London’s
Hilton Hotel, Park Lane to celebrate the 22nd annual Golden Joystick
Awards.

GTA took the ‘Ultimate Game of the Year’ accolade, as well as the
‘PlayStation 2 Game of the Year’ and a new award ‘Best Game Soundtrack
of 2005′. It also grabbed the ‘Hero’ and ‘Villain’ awards for its main
characters, CJ and corrupt cop Officer Twopenny – voiced by Samuel L.
Jackson.

Nintendo took ‘Publisher of the Year’ and despite its delay, ‘One To
Watch for Christmas’ for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Sony’s
PSP handheld took the Golden Joystick for ‘Innovation of the Year’
whilst Halo 2 took ‘Xbox Game of the Year’ and Valve’s Half Life 2
secured the ‘PC Game of the Year’ gong.

Future Publishing apparatchik James Ashton-Tyler said, "With over
200,000 votes cast in this year’s Golden Joysticks, it’s clear how
central gaming has become to the world of home entertainment. These
awards celebrate innovation and achievement as well as popular success.
Game developers love winning one because they are awarded solely by the
votes of those people who buy and play their work.”
