PlayStation Home’s community manager says that the European service is currently lacking the feature set found in other regions because of a lack of resources, but that SCEE is committed to boosting its range of content offerings over the coming months.

“Let's be honest, SCEE Home is behind the other regions in the number of spaces we have to offer,” said Home’s community manager, TedTheDog, in a frank post on the PlayStation forums.

“That's not to say we don’t have some really good clothing and furniture, we've actually got some excellent partners in the shopping centre. And we've also got Red Bull and Xi (the latter still has some way to run and some more surprises to bring you.) And Red Bull have another trick up their sleeve too. But overall, we're short on spaces in general. In isolation we don’t think this makes SCEE Home a bad place but we fully understand the regional comparisons and why they're made.

“... We're going to switch our priorities to the production of spaces for the foreseeable future. We will continue to support our partners in the shopping centre but our primary focus will be to improve our output and range of spaces. The transition from one to the other will take some time but we acknowledge that trying to do both lines (spaces and content) at the same time is something we do not have the resources to do currently here in the SCEE team. We have just recruited a new production assistant to help tackle this and once this person starts and is up to speed you should start to see improvements.”

The community manager said that SCEE is currently investigating 17 new spaces for potential inclusion in the European version of Home. The first task will be to update the service with older content yet to be added like Uncharted and Warhawk spaces, plus the updated Resident Evil 5 space.

“Then [we’ll] bring you some of the more recent spaces like Guitar Hero and then finally ensure we're able to release new spaces at the same time as the other regions whenever possible, and there’s a few of those coming your way. The timeline for this is probably about the next two to four months and there is likely to be a drop in output before it starts to really pick up and improve.”

The post also explained that SCEE plans to give Home users more advance warning of what it has in store for the virtual world.

“The second change to discuss is the way we talk about our new content… What we're going to try and do in the future is quite a big change in that we're going to aim to communicate what's coming to Home in SCEE one week in advance.

“This may be a better experience for everyone than messaging everything at the last minute when we know for sure what’s going to be published. There will be disappointments when content fails at the last minute and you've been looking forward to it for a week, but you'll be much better informed overall.”

Last time i popped in to the EU Home there was still jackall to do apart from spend money on your lifeless avater and dance like a mentallist.

It's still appears to be mostly full of males dressing their female avatars in the skimpiest attire attracting the attention of unsuspecting newbies who have yet to work that out yet!!

As Jimmy Page points out, the real problem with Home is the omission of a gun shop :D

You should be issued a paint gun when you enter HOME, it would give you a reason to be there...

#1 - SONY needs to make this Super-Second Life.

#2 - SONY needs to allow PC users to download & enter the space.

Personally, I think Second Life sucks balls, but as it stands, this is really just diet Second Life. With, like, a billion people using THAT service, they can't go wrong. They certainly can't do worse.

they'll never be able to stop complete idiots using it though... ever. The people on there are what scares me off using it. Just get abuse the 3 times I have ever been bothered to use it.. maybe with a bit of time it'll become better.. dunno

I downloaded home, but i can't say i fiddled with it long enough to actually work out what it was meant to do. I thought it was more or less a glorified chatroom?

I tried that when it first started and really didn't enjoy it much. Didn't really see the point and there wasnt that much there. Has it changed much recently?
