Boy Scouts of America has introduced videogame awards for the first time.
The awards fall under the Cub Scouts Academics and Sports Program, which focuses on the development of physical, mental and emotional fitness.
Scouts are required to complete three tasks to earn a belt loop, while advanced skills are recognised by pins.
To earn the former, scouts must explain why it is important to have a rating system for videogames, create a schedule of things to do including chores, homework and gaming, and learn to play a new game approved by their parent or guardian.
Earning pins requires scouts to compare and contrast game consoles, play a game that helps them with their schoolwork, and install a system with an adult’s supervision, among other tasks.
