Hasbro has ended its legal wrangle with the creators of the Facebook app Scrubalous, as the two parties agreed to end disputes out of court.

Scrabulous – essentially a flash version of the classic board-game Scrabble – became an overnight success for Calcutta-based creators Rajat Agarwalla and his brother Jayant. Hasbro – which owns the rights to the official board-game – soon sued the two brothers for copyright infringement, made sure the game was removed from Facebook, and quickly pushed its own official Scrabble game onto the networking site.

Yet Hasbro has decided to end court proceedings, according to the Associated Press. No explanation for the withdrawal was provided in Court documents.

A written statement from Agarwalla brothers' company RJ Softwares clarifies that the small firm has agreed not to use the imitation brand name Scrabulous, and that it has made changes to the game to distinguish it from its inspiration.

"The agreement provides people in the U.S. and Canada with a choice of different games and also avoids potentially lengthy and costly litigations," the statement said.
