AMD, Sega, Electronic Arts and NHN Games are teaming up to support DirectX 10.1 in upcoming titles, the companies announced Monday.
EA and Phenomic Studio's Battleforge, Sega's Stormrise and NHN Games' Cloud 9 will all implement DX10.1 when they arrive.
Currently AMD subsidiary ATI offers graphics cards that support DX10.1 in the form of the Radeon HD 3000 series and Radeon HD 4800 series.
In a statement, Microsoft Games for Windows global director Kevin Unangst said, "...One of the great advantages of PC gaming is the rapid pace at which the experiences evolve and improve. The ATI Radeon HD 3000 series and now the ATI Radeon HD 4800 series hardware delivers on the promise of DirectX 10 gaming with significantly improved visuals and enhanced performance."
DX10.1 offers incremental improvements to 3D rendering quality, and has been described by Microsoft as a "minor update." It's also fully backwards compatible to with DX10 hardware.
In July, Microsoft announced initial details for DX11, which currently doesn't have a solid release date.
