Shadow Complex has broken the first week Xbox Live Arcade download record, having been purchased over 200,000 times during its first seven days of availability.

Released on August 19, the side-scrolling shooter was developed using the Unreal Engine 3 by Undertow creator Chair Entertainment, a subsidiary of Epic Games. The 'Metroidvania’ game retails for 1,200 Microsoft points ($14.99/£10.20).

“Congratulations to Chair Entertainment and Epic Games for creating an outstanding game,” said Scott Austin, director of digitally distributed games at Microsoft. “As the capstone title of the second annual Summer of Arcade program, Shadow Complex has raised the bar for downloadable games."

Exceptional game deserving of its success. I suspect DLC would take the form of new Challenges.

On a recent OXM podcast, Donald Mustard of Chair said that they are already talking about a sequel and it was just dependent on how well the game would do (this interview was a few days before the game released).

I'd rather they took the time to complete that Advent Trilogy using the critical and sales momentum they're now getting from this game. In fact, I really hope they won't rush out a sequel to Shadow Complex anytime soon (unless it's as good as or better than the original).

naturally, I'm sure DLC is coming (probably based on stages that were clipped during production or new stages cooked up during production in case the game was a hit) and yup, it would be really nice to see this on PSN at some point...

Excellent! Sequel in good time, DLC would be appreciated, and I would love it if my PS3 owning friends could buy this on PSN. Some games are too good to be exclusively on one system! :)
