Shanghai, China-based Shanda reported a boost in profits and revenues thanks to strong performance of online games.
The company, which operates games including The Legend of Mir II (pictured), Tales of Dragon and The World of Legend, reported $137.3 million (RMB936.5 million) in unaudited revenues for its fiscal Q3, a 43 percent year-over-year jump.
Quarterly revenues included MMORPG and online casual game sales of $130.8 million, a 41 percent year-on-year increase.
Operating income was $56 million, up 50 percent. Net income was up 41 percent to $49.4 million.
Shanda CEO and chair Tianqiao Chen said in a statement that the firm was pleased to be able to weather the current "global financial turmoil," adding, "We are confident that the online entertainment industry will be more resilient through the economic cycle, and Shanda is well positioned to take advantage of this opportunity to continue to invest in order to grow our business. We are committed to provide our customers with the highest possible quality content and services via superior service platforms."
