U.K.-based publisher Eidos said Friday that shareholders have approved a takeover by Japan's Final Fantasy house Square Enix.

The milestone in the deal's proceedings is a major step in bringing the Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy franchises, along with other properties, under a single company.

Over 85 percent of shareholders representing 99.93 percent of Eidos shares voted for the resolution. Voting against the resolution were 14.97 percent of shareholders representing less than one percent of shares.

At the following Extraordinary General Meeting, the requisite majority approved the acquisition.

This seems rather interesting. Hopefully the resources Square-Enix has at their disposal will be spent towards another Tomb Raider game, and finally fix that rather annoying camera.

I guess Lara was fine when we were kids, but now we grew up and she hasn't. Selling here once again to a new generation of teenager will be tough. Selling her to her old fans will be even harder.

Now at least we can have a Kane & Lynch bobble head Emokids JRPG version - Guest Starring Lara Croft.
