Satellite TV provider Sky has spoke of the future possibilities of delivering its services to console owners.
Griff Parry, the company’s director of Sky OnDemand, has told TechRadar that the firm is currently considering the feasibility of a service where games consoles can be used to deliver selected programmes to televisions via an internet connection.
Parry says this shortly after completing a deal where Rupert Murdoch’s flagship business is now offering Sky Player TV, an ‘online-only’ subscription system where data is not sent via a digital dish, but instead through an internet connection.
"Currently consoles like the PlayStation 3 won't play the Sky Player because of the way we protect the content; so the PS3 wouldn't be able to cope with the DRM," said Parry. "However, I think games consoles are an interesting opportunity and it is something that we are exploring. We have a relationship with PlayStation because we launched the PSP service (GoView) so I look at consoles, and there are a lot of them, and they are obviously connected to televisions and the internet."
Anything that makes it easier to watch the football whilst travelling i suppose. Nothing worse than missing the game because you have to catch a (delayed) train. I wonder how much they will charge us or if it will come with my Sky subscription fee?
