Some Wii U footage was actually from PS3/360 game versions

"Absolutely," Reggie Fils-Aime admits. "We're talking a year away from when the system's going to launch." Asked whether the games will look better on Wii U than their PS3 and 360 counterparts, Fils-Aime says that it will depend on the developers. "The system's going to be 1080p, it's going to be high definition. Tick that box, that's done; now it's about what is the new experience we're going to bring?"

"It's going to be 1080p!" that doesn't mean anything. So, it has an HDMI output apparently and has the ability to output 1080p but does that mean it can render current-gen games at 1080p or just upscale ala 360? Some games run at a native 1080p but most games actually run at 720p which is arguably not true HD. If the WiiU can run current gen games like Battlefield 3, MW3, Rage, Skyrim, Bioshock I, etc. in 1080p I'll be somewhat impressed. It SHOULD run games that look even better than that at 1080p since it'll be the first next-gen console released.
