Sony Arms £2m for Killzone 2 Ad Offensive
SCE UK will be investing £2 million for its Killzone 2 ad campaign in the UK.
The money will be used for promotional broadcasts across TV and Cinema, along with a strong online campaign, as well as in-store support and other expected channels of promotion.
The investment shows signs of Sony’s confidence in the commercial viability of the title; understandable for a game currently enjoying a 95% Metacritic average.
The company clearly believes that Killzone 2 can drive sales of the console in the UK, though the firm is also playing with an additional £2m to heighten the presence of other signature Playstation-brand-exclusives, from the upcoming SingStar Queen to Edge’s Game of the Year LittleBigPlanet.
“We felt that the chaos of Q4 meant there was a good opportunity for re-promoting our games after Christmas. The creative for the campaign focuses on critical accolade and is aimed at gamers still catching up with all those titles that came out before Christmas,” said SCEE marketing director Alan Duncan, speaking to MCV.
Duncan was positive in regards to the critical appeal of Killzone 2, claiming the title has “lived up to that original billing and in doing so it brings a new energy to the most competitive genre. We need to prove that to as many people as possible, hence the massive campaign.”

I do hope the game sells well, I still don't have a PS3 since pretty much I got all I needed on the 360 but I hope to get one soon since this seems to be the kind of game that will make it worth it to get a PS3, when it happens I will get MGS4 along with maybe LBP and of course I will be waiting patiently for God of War 3, before the reviews of Killzone 2 came out it was the only game that I would consider worthy of getting a PS3 for, IMHO.
Dude I have both ps3 and 360 but there are some sweet games on the ps3 i gotta say like uncharted is awesome and if you like your platformers then ratchet and clank is a lot of fun. And yes resistance 2 got bad review here but in my honest opinion its a lot of fun. Not too serious to take but just mindlessly enjoyable if that is what you are into. But just a suggestion cos 360 is good as well if you got the cash then I do recommend highly.
I would definitely add Uncharted to the list along with Heavenly Sword once I get the PS3, I agree there are more than a few good games on the PS3 its just that the investment was too high considering that I could get good games on the 360, it was more like the lack of a MUST have title that kept me from seriously considering the investment (which was quite high, not so bad now) of getting me Sony's console.
Thank God they gonna do some advertising. Cos to be honest all xmas never seen one advert for LBP or R2. I saw pretty much 360 ones, even in the multiplatform games. This could work for Sony cos like many have said Sony's marketing has been non-existent. I think I saw like 5 uncharted adverts and maybe one advert for Ratchet and Clank lol. Seriously they just need to advertise. And just to emphasise how bad their marketing was I did not every know when Motorstorm 2 came out and that was a first party title. Seriously Sony, start putting some weight behind your punches.
